Wildlife watching is also at its best: the drier vegetation makes animals easier to spot at Outamba-Kilimi National Park, and sea turtles nest on the beaches from November to February.
Wet Season (May – October): For the Adventurous
Sierra Leone's wet season is one of the world's most dramatic — Freetown can receive 500mm in a single day in July. Roads outside the main cities become challenging. However, the wet season has its own appeal: the landscape turns an extraordinary deep green, waterfalls like Bintimani and Guma Valley are spectacular, and there are far fewer tourists.
Budget travellers and photographers who don't mind mud will find the wet season rewarding — and significantly cheaper. Hotels often offer 20–40% discounts, and you'll have beaches almost to yourself in September and October.
